AIKEN, S.C. — Aiken County Deputy Ethan Crosby has been released from the hospital and will continue recovering in a rehabilitation facility, the sheriff office said Friday.

Officials said Crosby underwent two successful surgeries after he was shot and run over during a confrontation with a suspect on Oct. 5.

The sheriff office called the hospital discharge a significant and positive step forward while noting the road to recovery will still take time.

Crosby was injured after a chase that ended on Scotch Lane, where investigators say 38-year-old Amanda Buckner opened fire and struck him in the lower body before driving over him.

Deputies returned fire and Buckner later died. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure.

The agency thanked medical staff and asked the public to keep Crosby, his family and sheriff office personnel in their thoughts.
