CHAPIN, S.C. — Chapin High senior linebacker Parker Collins is one of the busiest defenders in South Carolina high school football this fall, sitting 12th on the statewide total tackles leaderboard with 86 tackles heading into Week 9.

Collins is level on that list with Rock Hill senior Donovan Franklin, who is listed 11th at 86. Rock Hill senior Tristian Nelson leads the state with 104 tackles, and Rock Hill players hold three of the top four spots on the board.

On the Chapin team stat sheet, Collins leads the team at 10.8 tackles per game and also leads in sacks with 4.0. He adds 6 quarterback hurries, third on the team behind senior defensive lineman Clint Gentry with 17 and senior defensive end Jacob Keisler with 9. Gentry is second in tackles at 5.8 per game and has 3.0 sacks.

Senior cornerback and free safety Charlie Pinner leads the Chapin secondary with 3 interceptions. On offense, junior running back Charlie Howell averages 91.0 rushing yards per game and has 8 rushing touchdowns, and junior quarterback Tyler Black has thrown 8 touchdown passes while completing 66 percent of his attempts.

The Chapin High School Eagles compete in SCHSL Class 5A, Region 3 and stand 4-4 overall and 0-2 in region play, putting a premium on the final two region dates for the defense Collins anchors.

Chapin heads to White Knoll for a region game on Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m., then closes the regular season at home against Lexington on Oct. 23. The Eagles play home games at Cecil Woolbright Stadium.
