# Chapin’s Ella Speight Named to 5A All-State Volleyball Team

CHAPIN, S.C. — Chapin High School senior Ella Speight has been named to the Class 5A all-state volleyball team. The South Carolina Coaches Association for Women’s Sports picked its 2026 all-state teams in all five classifications on Monday.

Speight, a libero and defensive specialist for the Eagles, is the lone Chapin player on the 18-player Class 5A list.

Other Midlands schools with a player on the Class 5A team are River Bluff, Lexington and Blythewood, while Gray Collegiate placed two. Woodmont, the team that ended Chapin’s season, placed three players on the list.

Chapin finished the fall at 12-5 overall and 5-3 in Region 3, good for third place in the region. The Eagles beat James F. Byrnes 3-1 at home in a playoff match on Oct. 21, then fell 3-0 at Woodmont on Oct. 26. Woodmont carries a 40-2 record this season.

Speight helped Chapin to a comeback win on Sept. 24 at home against River Bluff, when she finished with 17 digs and an assist. Chapin dropped the first two sets that night and came back to win the next three, 25-12, 25-16 and 25-13.

Chapin High School, home of the Eagles, is at 300 Columbia Ave. in Chapin and competes in SCHSL Class 5A, Region 3.
