Nancy Bartholomew, 99, Passes Away in Naples, Florida

Nancy Large Bartholomew, a Pittsburgh native with family ties to Chapin, South Carolina, passed away on August 3, 2026, in Naples, Florida, just five days before her 100th birthday. Born on August 8, 1926, she was the middle daughter of Sarah (Davis) and Richard Large of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and an eighth-generation Pittsburgher.

Mrs. Bartholomew was married for 59 years to the late George Anderson Bartholomew. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Bartholomew Manecke (Jeffrey) of Granville, Ohio. Her legacy also includes three grandchildren: James Andrew Manecke (Kristie) of Houston, Texas; Katharine Manecke Quickel (Jordan) of Columbus, Ohio; and Anne Phillips Bartholomew (Bryan Bates) of Chapin, South Carolina. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bartholomew was preceded in death by her husband, her son Tracy Bartholomew II, her daughter Sally Jane Bartholomew, and her sisters Elizabeth Large Metz and Eleanor Large Anderson.

A 1944 graduate of The Ellis School, Mrs. Bartholomew, alongside her daughter Susan, who graduated in 1966, co-wrote the school’s alma mater, a composition that remains in use today.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Bartholomew was actively involved in her communities in both Pittsburgh and Naples. In Pittsburgh, she was a long-standing member of the Third Presbyterian Church, the Junior League, the Twentieth Century Club, Longue Vue Club, and Fox Chapel Golf Club. Upon moving to Naples, she became a founding member of the League Club and was a familiar presence at Wyndemere Country Club and Royal Poinciana Golf Club.

A reception to honor Nancy Bartholomew’s life is scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh.
