The Town of Chapin is set to host its annual Labor Day celebration, with events beginning tomorrow, September 5, and continuing through Monday, September 7. This year’s theme, Stars, Stripes and Service—Celebrating 250 years, will feature a 5K run, live music, various food options, and a parade. Residents of Chapin and the surrounding Midlands area are invited to participate in the festivities.
Beyond Chapin’s local celebration, several other community events are scheduled for later in September. Keep the Midlands Beautiful is organizing a lake and river sweep event on Lake Murray, a significant local natural asset. This cleanup effort is planned for Saturday, September 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Supplies, t-shirts, and prizes will be provided to volunteers, with the registration deadline set for this Saturday.
Historic Columbia will host the 48th annual Jubilee Festival of Black History and Culture at the Mann-Simons site on Saturday, September 19, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This free event will offer live music, food trucks, and art demonstrations, providing an opportunity to learn about Black history and culture.
Additionally, the Town of Irmo will present its 51st annual Okra Strut later this month. The opening ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, September 25, at 6 p.m. The celebration will continue on Saturday, September 26, starting at 9 a.m. with a parade, followed by family-friendly activities at Moore Park. Attendance for the Okra Strut is also free.
