CHAPIN, S.C. — Voters in Chapin and across Lexington-Richland School District Five will fill four seats on the district Board of Trustees in Tuesday’s general election. Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Seven nonpartisan candidates are on the ballot, and all four seats will go to newcomers. The trustees whose terms end this month are Elizabeth Barnhardt and Mike Satterfield, who represent the Lexington County part of the district, and Kevin Scully and Kimberly Snipes, who represent the Richland County part. None of the four filed to run again.

Chapin voters, along with the rest of the district inside Lexington County, will choose from four names listed on the ballot under School Trustee, District 5: Kim Gilbert, Blake Justice, Karena Phelps and Jennifer G Rice.

District voters who live in Richland County have three choices in the race listed as School District At Large, District 5: Beth LoPresti, Michael Reeves and Terence Rickenbacker.

The board has seven members. Four come from the Lexington County side and are chosen by voters there, while the other three must live in the Richland County side and are chosen by voters in that county. Each member serves a four-year term.

Three trustees are not up this year. Jason Baynham of the Richland County side and Scott Herring and Catherine Huddle of the Lexington County side were elected in November 2024 and serve through November 2028.

The board usually holds its regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month during the school year, starting at 7 p.m. at a school in the district. Members also choose a chairman, vice chairman and secretary each November.

District Five is based in neighboring Irmo and also serves Irmo and Ballentine. Chapin itself is in Lexington County.

Early voting in Lexington County ran from Oct. 19 through Oct. 31. Voters can check their registration, sample ballot and polling place through MyscVOTES. The Lexington County Registration and Election office is at 605 West Main Street, Suite C, in Lexington, and its phone number is 803-785-8361.
